I will not give up proclaiming the good news to queers and straights alike for the illusion of unity in which we affirm all theologies. Theologies that are shown to teach hate are not of the gospel. The letter calls out many in the PC(USA) for “a lack of respect for conscience based on Scripture.” I do not lack respect for those whose conscience is based on scripture. I do, however, lack respect for interpretations of scripture that are achieved with the aid of homophobia and serve heterosexist ends.
